Being Healthy

ALL OF OUR CHILDREN HAVE AN INITIAL ASSESMENT OF THEIR NEEDS.  OUR TRAINED STAFF ASCERTAIN THE BEHAVIOURAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENGAGE OUR PANEL OF HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS.

Physical health

Our panel of health consultants give a balanced holistic care package for all of our young people.

We strive especially hard for those children that have physical needs and will commission domiciliary visits in cases where mobility is an issue.

We have a good relationship with the local General  Practitioners, however in the interests of continuity of care we try to keep with any GP that has built a long term relationship in the care of any young person. There is regular written and verbal communication between the health providers and ourselves. The care plans are updated daily.

As well as regular GP visits we have annual dentist, optician and dietician reviews.

Our development charts and regular recording processes help guide our health practitioners.

We have a service agreement with local physiotherapists that offer sports injury, general and specialised physiotherapy and can access hydrotherapy for those with fibromyalgia or a chronic muscle wasting process.

In cases where children have problems with phonation or swallowing we have a resident  SALT Speech and language therapy, for vocalisation and swallowingtherapist to guide care and staff that are experienced in tracheostomy care, PEG care (percutaneous endoscopic gastroenteromy) and are undertaking nasogastric feeding training. We have our own “hungry mannequin”  for use with in house training.

We are experienced in managing chronic diseases, such as epilepsy and have specialised soft sleep walled areas for nocturnal fits and can monitor and chart oxygen  saturations during episodes.

We have wheelchair access and a specialised downstairs bedroom with a walk in shower. All staff have rigorous manual handling training for managing children with physical needs.

Our biological waste system make us proficient in disposing of human waste, for children that have single or double incontinence and require rigorous personal care and hygiene supervision.
