IT IS ESSENTIAL TO LOOK AT THE LONG TERM FUTURE OF CHILDREN AND NURTURE SKILLS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO EARN LIVINGS AND TO DEVELOP SOCIAL SKILLS TO ALLOW THEM TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS AS WELL AS FIND THEIR PLACE IN SOCIETY. THIS INVOLVES WORKING IN CONJUNCTION WITH FAMILIES, SCHOOLS AND SOCIAL SERVICES TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE ALL IN UNISON IN PROMOTING THE BEST STANDARDS IN CARE.
Independent living skills promotion is the essence of our business. We have introduced novel micro projects such as the running of a tuck shop within one of our units, which allows the young people to develop budget skills, money management and entrepreneurship. Some of them are members of a youth cadet scheme which they find very rewarding and challenging.
We have links with religious places and charities which promote the feeling of community spirit and being a part of the wider community. Our official charity is the NSPCC.
Education is the main thrust of our future hopes for the children. We appreciate that academia may be particularly difficult for some of our children and therefore think outside the box to find alternative pathways such as NVQ apprentice schemes eg bricklaying, IT, mechanics, electrician etc. We have been fortunate to build links with the James Brindley foundation and have wonderful communication with LACES Looked after children services .
We always look to strengthen and support placements in mainstream education and will deploy a member of staff in class to give extra support where necessary. We work tirelessly to ensure the very best for our children and are experienced in the statement process.
Just like any caring parent we take an interest in our child’s day, we give them school diaries receive feedback from teachers and give our own.
